Apaches avenge Last Year's Playoff Loss

Apaches defeated the West Coast Lions 28-0

Downey, CA - Apaches (2-0) Shut out the West Coast Lions (0-2) 28-0 in Week 2. This is the 2nd shut out the Apaches Defense produced during 2020 season campaign. With thoughts of last years playoff loss to the Lions still fresh on their minds, the Apaches attacked on all facets of the game to win. However, the win came at a cost, losing RT Alex Oliva for the season, due to a broken leg suffered during the game. Alex was immediately transferred to hospital,

Coach Leon, felt there was still a lot of things to fix on both sides of the ball (in all positions) for the Apaches. but he was happy that his defense shut out the Lions offense. When asked about his thoughts about the game, "On the lions, we took that game personal we knew what happened last year and made sure not to take them lightly and handle business. Much respect to Ronald and Lucy over there. They run a great organization and hopefully we’ll see them again in the playoffs"

Game highlight points:

  • Bernard Porter lead the offense with 150 yards passing with 2 Passing TDs, .

  • Greg Moore, displayed speed when he "moss'd" the Lions defender for a 48 yards TD.

  • RB group had a total of 115 yards rushing, with Donald Matthews scoring the only rushing TD.

  • Defense allowed under 100 yards total offense.

  • Defense shut out the Lions (2nd one this season; 2 in a row)

  • Clarence Laster Fumble recovery TD return for 29 yards..

  • Mike Johnson scored a safety, blowing up the QB and RB in the same play on their own endzone.

The Apaches next game is against the North County Zulus (0-2). Zulus suffered a tough loss against the Sin City Rough Riders while hosting their first home game, losing 40-20. Coach Leon's thoughts on the game ahead, "Zulus are a new team to the league but and at 0-2 can’t be taken lightly, as they have speed at the RB and QB position that has been giving teams fits. We have to make sure we handle our job on defense and continue to play lights out football while the offense gels.".

Tune in next week, when the Apaches return home in Downey, CA when they face off the North County Zulus of Palmdale. Zulus are looking to attack with their speed amongst their offensive weapons.
